Mr. Akins has served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees since 12 January 2017, having first begun service on the Boards of Bethany in 1994. When Mr. Akins was first elected to the Board, he was employed full-time with T.J. Morris, an independent food supply family-owned business in Statesboro, Georgia, where he served as Secretary-Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer for the company, retiring in 2000 after forty (40) years of service. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees for over ten (10) years and was elected to the Chair position in 2017. He recently retired as a Deacon and Treasurer of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church, Statesboro, Georgia, where he also served as an Ex-Officio member of the Personnel Committee in that Church, the church with the largest number of members in the Primitive Baptist denomination. He was elected Deacon Emeritus of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church in 2019. Mr. Akins’ expertise is largely in the area of human resources and finance. He has served on numerous civic and community boards and committees in Statesboro and Bulloch County. He is active in the management of farm and timber lands in the Akins, Stilson, and Brooklet communities.
